How PvP Works

The PvP system controls when players can attack each other. It operates at three levels:

  1. Global - Enable/disable PvP entirely
  2. Zone - Each zone has a default PvP mode
  3. Player - Individual flag status (for opt-in mode)

Zone settings override global defaults. Player flags only matter in "Opt-In" mode.

Combat Lockout

When a player engages in PvP combat, they enter a combat lockout period. During this time, they cannot unflag.

This prevents players from attacking others, then immediately unflagging to avoid retaliation. The lockout persists even if the player disconnects and reconnects.

How Karma Works

Karma tracks a player's moral standing based on PvP kills:

  • Kill innocent (karma ≥ 0) → Lose karma
  • Kill criminal (karma < 0) → Gain karma

Karma Tiers:

Hero100+Honored by NPCs
Good1-99Normal interactions
Neutral0Default state
Suspicious-1 to -99NPCs wary
Outlaw-100 or lessGuards hostile

Decay: Negative karma slowly returns to 0 over time. Positive karma is permanent.

How Bounties Work

Players can place bounties on other players using in-game currency.

Placing Bounties:

  • Currency is deducted immediately
  • Multiple players can contribute to one bounty
  • Bounties accumulate (500 + 300 = 800 total)
  • Cannot place bounty on yourself

Claiming Bounties:

  • Kill the target to claim their bounty
  • If multiple players contribute to the kill, bounty is split equally
  • Optional claim fee can be configured
  • All bounty placers are notified when claimed

Tip: Outlaws (karma -100 or below) make good bounty targets since killing them gives positive karma!
